a gift from heart
it has been 17 years since wesley ryan watched his beloved car drive away from him, and the sight "broke him in half".
back in the day, wesley was known around san antonio, texas, usa for his white 1993 ford mustang. he loved the car so much that he even nicknamed it "christine". it held many special memories for the family. it was the one wesley brought his daughter jeni home from the hospital in, and the one his son jake dreamed of driving one day. but when his wife laura got cancer, wesley sold the car to help pay for her treatment.
"it's not his world, but it's one of the pieces to his heart. you just can't replace it with any other car," jeni said.
so jeni and jake decided to buy the car back after their father did so much for the family. they tried several times over the years, and luckily they tracked down the car this september. they explained the situation to the owner and bought it back. they did it secretly and finally when wesley saw his beloved car, he cried with joy.
for wesley, what his kids did goes beyond getting his car back. "my wife and i have succeeded. we've raised productive adults. it's the strongest, most powerful feeling that a parent can have," wesley said.
